Jankovic gets off to winning start in Charleston
CHARLESTON - Serbia's Jelena Jankovic got off to a winning start at the WTA tennis tournament in Charleston by beating Lauren Davis of the United States 6-0, 6-3 early Thursday.
In the next round of the USD 710,000 tournament, Serbia's highest-ranked female tennis player will face Ajla Tomljanovic of Croatia, who beat Zhang Shuai 4-6, 7-6 (7-4), 6-3.
On Wednesday, Jankovic also made a successful start in doubles, beating Liezel Huber and Lisa Raymond of the United States 7-5, 2-6, 10-7 with her partner Andrea Petkovic of Germany.
In the second round, Jankovic and Petkovic will once again face Americans Raquel Kops-Jones and Abigail Spears, who beat Jarmila Gajdosova of Australia and Saisai Zheng of China.
