Ljajic: Serbia urges ICTY to return unused documentation
BELGRADE - Rasim Ljajic, chairman of the National Council for Cooperation with the Hague Tribunal, said on Monday that Serbia had requested from the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) to return the entire documentation that had not been used in the proceedings before that court.
Speaking in a live broadcast on the Belgrade-based TV Pink, Ljajic noted that the Serbian authorities provided the ICTY with a huge documentation from its archives.
90 percent of the documentation has not been used in the war crimes proceedings before the ICTY so, in keeping with the rules, the documentation should be given back to Serbia, he noted.
Ljajic said that Serbia would not give up on the request that the ICTY should return the entire documentation that it had not used, and noted that, if needed, the country would also demand that from the UN Security Council.
Commenting on the recent arrest in France of the former member of the Bosnian Serb military Radomir Susnjar suspected of war crimes against Bosniak civilians in Visegrad, Ljajic voiced expectation that the proceedings against him would be continued before a court for war crimes in Serbia.
The matter is being discussed by the war crimes prosecutions of Serbia and Bosnia-Herzegovina that have an agreement on cooperation which allows for a transfer of cases to a country whose citizenship the suspect holds, Ljajic explained.
