Šarić won't testify in case against Dačić's ex-cabinet chief

BELGRADE -- Darko Šarić did not wish to testify in the preliminary investigation conducted against Branko Lazarević and others.

Lazarević is a former chief of cabinet of Minister of the Interior Ivica Dačić, and is suspected of leaking police information on the monitoring and surveillance of members of Šarić's crime group.

Šarić was on Tuesday expected to be questioned by the Office of the Prosecutor for Organized Crime, but he exercised his right not to testify, Prosecutor Miljko Radisavljević told Tanjug.

According to him, Šarić invoked his right not to make a statement as a witness that would expose him to criminal liability.

Šarić was a fugitive for several years before he was arrested on March 18. He is on trial before the Special Court on charges of cocaine trafficking and money laundering.
