KiM Serbs, EULEX confer on arrests of Serbs
KOSOVSKA MITROVICA - Representatives of Serbs in north Kosovo called on EULEX to stop arresting Serbs until Serb judges and prosecutions are included in the Kosovo judiciary, member of the Kosovo parliament Aleksandar Jablanovic has said.
A meeting was held in Kosovska Mitrovica on Friday evening between representatives of four north KiM municipalities and EULEX officials tabling the arrests of Serbs in north Kosovo-Metohija by the EULEX police which are growing in frequency.
The immediate cause was Friday's arrest of Serb Radovan Radic in Zubin potok, who is suspected of involvement in the murder of a Kosovo policeman in 2011.
Jablanovic told reporters after the meeting that representatives of Serbs in north KiM urged EULEX to respect the rights of citizens when arresting them.
He said that EULEX has to bear in mind that the arrests can stir up the revolt of the citizens that cannot be fully controlled by political representatives of Serbs in north KiM.
Jablanovic said that representatives of Serb municipalities requested from EULEX officials a high level of security for Radic and his transfer to a detention unit in Serb-dominated north KiM in the shortest time possible.
“We requested that the communication between us and EULEX representatives should be intensified. We were assured that EULEX will check Radic's safety and that we will be timely informed about the case,” Jablanovic said.
