Serbia not to spoil relations with Russia
SID - Serbian Prime Minister Ivica Dacic stated on Saturday that Serbia will not join sanctions against the Russian Federation.
“We will probably be exposed to pressures, but we will not spoil relations with Russia,” Dacic told reporters after a ceremony marking the 69th anniversary of the Syrmian Front and the end of the fight for Serbia's liberation in WWII.
The prime minister underlined that Serbia respects the territorial integrity and sovereignty of every UN member state, but on the other hand it will certainly not implement measures against Russia.
Dacic said that the support of the opposition parties United Regions of Serbia (URS) and Democratic Party (DS) to the suspension of Russia's right to vote at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) is political exhibitionism which does not take into consideration the predominant opinion of the people in Serbia.
It is important that officials of the ruling coalition in the Serbian parliament's delegation to the PACE took an unambiguous stand and voted against sanctions on Russia.
“Russia has never been against Serbia, it has never imposed sanctions or any other measures against our country and Serbia will certainly respect that and do the same in return”, Dacic underlined.
