Belgrade Marathon on April 27, gov't earmarks RSD 7 mln
BELGRADE - The Serbian government earmarked RSD 7 million for this year's Belgrade Marathon, which will be held on April 27.
A contract for financing the 27th Belgrade Marathon was signed by Minister of Youth and Sports Vanja Udovicic, President of the Belgrade Marathon Aleksandar Djordjevic and Secretary General of the Athletics Federation of Serbia (ASS) Slobodan Brankovic.
Udovicic said at the Palace of Serbia that he is glad that this year's marathon will see a record number of participants, and called on all citizens to take part in the main race in the Serbian capital.
The 27th Belgrade Marathon will at the same time be the Balkan Marathon Championships and Serbian Half-Marathon Championships.
In addition to marathon and half-marathon races, the event will traditionally include the five-kilometer Fun Run, which will this year be named "Coca Cola Fun Run" after the sponsor.
According to Belgrade Marathon Director Dejan Nikolic, a total of 2,500 marathon and half-marathon runners from 50 countries from all continents have sent their online applications for the event so far, not including the best marathon runners from the Balkans, Serbian half-marathon runners and elite runners who mostly come from Kenya and Ethiopia.
