Play dedicated to veterans of Salonica front performed
BELGRADE - Students of the Belgrade and Banjaluka academies of arts performed the play "Veterans of the Salonica Front Speak" at the National Theatre in Belgrade late Saturday.
The play, based on a docudrama by Antonije Djuric and directed by Cisana Murusidze, is part of the official programme marking the centenary of the outbreak of World War I.
The performance was staged under the auspices of Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic and Republika Srpska President Milorad Dodik.
Blessing the play, Patriarch Irinej of the Serbian Orthodox Church bestowed the Order of Saint Sava upon Dusan Djokovic, the president of the Belgrade Academy of Arts.
The young actors, who also performed the play early this month at the National Theatre of Republika Srpska, revived the memory of those who contributed to Serbia's victory in the Great War.
The scenography for the play was created by famous painter Dragan Stojkov. An exhibition of his portraits of artists, titled "From Shakespeare to Sterija", opened at the National Theatre club after the performance.
