A train and a bus full of passengers collided at an intersection on the road between the towns of Stip and Veles as a result of which the bus capsized in the nearby ditch.

All passengers except one are in a stable condition, although several sustained serious injuries.

Sixteen of the injured have been hospitalized in Stip while another 16 were admitted to nearby Veles. Four were subsequently sent to the capital, Skopje, owing to the seriousness of their injuries.

One pregnant woman is also among the injured but doctors told local media that her condition was also stable.

As a result of the collision, train traffic between Skopje and the border with Greece has been halted since Tuesday morning.

The head of Macedonian Railways, Oliver Derkovski, said that according to their preliminary checks, the accident occurred when the bus tried to cross the railway line while the signaling device had already announced the passing of the train.
