President Nikolić visits Special Brigade

PANČEVO -- President Tomislav Nikolić on Tuesday attended "an analysis of operational and functional capabilities of the Serbian Army for 2013," in Pančevo, near Belgrade.

Nikolić visited a technical and tactical exhibition of armament and military equipment used by the members of the Special Brigade, and a shooting range where he was shown a demonstration of the brigade’s way of training.

The members of this elite VS unit, which was formed in September 2006, demonstrated their response "in the fight against terrorists in urban areas and in rural setting," Tanjug reported.

During a demonstration on the training ground of the Rastko Nemanjić army barracks, the unit also displayed their martial arts skills, combat parachute jumps and ways for destroying explosive devices in a vehicle.

Defense Minister Bratislav Gašićc and Chief of the VS General Staff General Ljubiša Diković also attended.

The analysis focused on the conditions in which the VS was carrying out its tasks, especially concerning the realization of guidelines of the Serbian president for building up operational and functional capabilities of the VS for the 2013-2018 period, capabilities to complete missions and other issues that influence maintaining and further developing the armed forces’ capabilities.

It was noted that the equipment of the Serbian Army "should be improved in the forthcoming period," the Ministry of Defense said.
