310 slides, landslides appear in Gornji Milanovac

GORNJI MILANOVAC - Milisav Mirkovic, Gornji Milanovac mayor, told Tanjug on Monday that a total of 310 slides and landslides have been registered in the territory of this municipality on Mt. Rudnik, central Serbia, after devastating floods.

“Six houses have been pulled down and 15 damaged, and financial statements will be concluded this week in terms of the overall damage,” he said.

Mirkovic said that the repair works, which are under way, involve local public companies, all available private machinery and Azerbaijani construction company AzVirt, which is building a railway section from Belgrade to Montenegro.

Experts of the Belgrade Traffic Institute CIP, who toured the area on Sunday, said that the institute will make preliminary designs for a few large bridges that were swept by flash floods, the mayor said.

The disinfection of the flooded area is under way, water is safe for drinking, all households have electricity supply, and there are only a small number of local households whose telephone lines are down, Mirkovic said.
