Satellite images of flood-hit areas available on Internet

BELGRADE - The Geodetic Authority of the Republic of Serbia has announced that it has obtained satellite and radar images of flood-hit areas in western Serbia.

The images can be used for analysing the consequences of the floods, for crisis management and designing systems for protection against future environmental disasters, the Authority said in a statement.

Combined with other geoinformation, the satellite images are a basis for making timely decisions aimed at alleviating the consequences of disasters and speeding up recovery.

The images have been obtained pursuant to a bilateral agreement between Serbia and France, by implementing an IGIS project titled National Spatial Data Infrastructure and Remote Sensing Centre for the Republic of Serbia, a collaborative effort of the Authority and the French Airbus Defence and Space consortium and IGN France International, the statement said.

Information for monitoring the effects of the floods, based on radar images captured on May 16, and a satellite image of the area of the Krupanj municipality, captured on May 21, has been published on the Geosrbija geoportal.

Through the portal, the Geodetic Authority will continue to publish information from the IGIS project and other sources used to monitor the consequences of the floods.
