Davutoğlu tweeted that precautions ‘had been taken’ before ISIL raid on consulate
Foreign Minister Ahmet DavutoÄlu announced via Twitter that Ankara was maintaining constant contact with its Mosul consulate and stressing that all necessary precautions had been taken, only a few hours after reports that the city had been seized by militants of the Islamic State of Iraq and Levant (ISIL).
âWe are closely following developments in Iraq over the last 48 hours. We are maintaining constant contact with our general consulates in Mosul and Arbil,â DavutoÄlu tweeted on June 11.
âThe necessary security measures for our Mosul consulate have been taken. I thank the consulate personnel and security officers for their calm,â he added.
DavutoÄlu was in the United States to attend to a U.N. meeting on the
fight against terrorism when the ISIL raided the Turkish consulate. He
has cut his trip short and he is set to return to Ankara.
