Day Care Centre for Elderly opens in Nis with US help
NIS - A Day Care Centre for the Elderly opened in Nis on Thursday and the official opening ceremony was attended by U.S. Ambassador to Serbia Michael Kirby.
The Centre was built as part of the existing local Gerontology Centre with the funds provided by the United States European Command (EUCOM) to the total value of USD 350,000. The works on the centre construction began in October 2013 under the supervision of the U.S. Army engineers.
The Centre aims to meet the needs of elderly citizens and their families by providing day care services for the elderly suffering from mental or physical disabilities.
The individuals, who usually live with their families, will be able to spend time in the Day Care Centre while their families go about their daily business, Kirby said at the official opening ceremony. He noted that the opening of the Day Care Centre constitutes an example of good cooperation between the U.S. government, EUCOM and the Nis local self-government.
Nis Mayor Zoran Perisic expressed gratitude to the U.S. for the assistance and underscored that the City of Nis invested another RSD 80,000 in the project for the utility management of the Day Care Centre facility.
