Megatrend University council accepts Jovanovic's resignation

BELGRADE - The Megatrend University council aceepted on Saturday the resignation of rector Mica Jovanovic relieved him of office, the university has stated.

Jovanovic said on Friday he would resign as head of that private university and vice president of the Conference of Universities, which was requested by Education Minister Srdjan Verbic.

Verbic called on Jovanovic to resign after an international procedure to verify that Jovanovic held a PhD from the London School of Economics had shown that he did not, contrary to Jovanovic's claim in his resume.

The London School of Economics has no record of a doctoral thesis by Jovanovic, Verbic stated and invited Jovanovic to explain that fact or resign.
