Udovicic: Debate on amendments to sports law will begin soon

BELGRADE - Serbia's Minister of Youth and Sports Vanja Udovicic met with Hungarian Secretary of State for Sports Istvan Simicsko in Budapest Wednesday to discuss improving cooperation between the two countries and the Hungarian experience in ownership transformation in sports.

Minister Udovicic said that a public debate on amendments to the Law on Sports would begin soon.

“The work on the draft is nearing completion and it will be debated soon," said Udovicic.

He pointed out that a transparent and fair system was necessary, with a stronger role for the private sector.

"We want the clubs to come out of this process healthier and states and taxpayers' money to be protected from irrational spending, and we want the responsibility of individuals to be known and athletes to develop in healthy surroundings,” Udovicic said.

The minister visited the football clubs Ferencvarosi and Debrecen and talked with the managements of the two clubs.

Today's visit to Hungary ended a series of talks Udovicic had in the countries of the region, aimed at getting acquainted with their experiences in privatization. The minister visited Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Greece, Bulgaria, Romania and Poland.
