Chiefs of police departments to be dismissed

BELGRADE - Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic has said that chiefs of departments at the Interior Ministry (MUP) will be dismissed.

He also stated that General Police Director Milorad Veljovic will remain in office.

“Had he not been selected after a call for job applications, Veljovic would have been dismissed today too, not because he is to blame, but for moral reasons,” Vucic told a news conference after a meeting of the National Security Council.

The police departments will be headed by deputy chiefs until the appointment of new chiefs.

“I asked for results in the fight against drug cartels, but people in the MUP were more interested in some infighting,” Vucic said, adding that they started meddling in politics and influencing the media.
