Mihajlovic: Serbs can 'tip the scales'

BELGRADE - Milivoje Mihajlovic, head of the Serbian government's media relations office, is sure that a new Kosovo government will be formed based on the platform of the Brussels agreement, underscoring that the power to tip the scales can be in Serbs' hands.

It is possible that Serbs in KiM will decide who will form the government in Pristina, and in that case they will have a stronger political power and more serious clout, Mihajlovic said in a live broadcast on the Belgrade-based TV B92.

In that context, Mihajlovic underlined the importance of the Tuesday meeting between Kosovo Serbs and government officials in Belgrade, during which they agreed that all MPs of the Serb List in Kosovo-Metohija will take a united political front.

The unity is also important for Serbs to have an impact on the developments in Kosovo, and for Belgrade to have an impact on the developments in Kosovo, he stressed.

Mihajlovic said that, besides this political clout, Serbs in Kosovo-Metohija will continue to receive financial assistance from Belgrade.

“This economic assistance should arrive in the most transparent way, but should be developmental, and not social, and it should help create jobs, ensure that people work and live off their work, and that the state does not pay for their stay in Kosovo," said the director of the media relations office.

Speaking about the recent incidents in Kosovska Mitrovica, when Albanians protested against the setting up of a peace park, Mihajlovic described them as protests against peace, against Serbs in Kosovo institutions.
