President Basescu announces adoption of SEECP declaration

President Traian Basescu has announced on Wednesday the adoption of a declaration by the Summit of heads of state and government of South-East Europe Cooperation Process (SEECP) member states, showing that this represents a revitalization of the organisation.

"Today's summit was finally a successful one. We have managed to adopt a declaration, which has not happened during the past two summits. (...) The fact that the adoption of a declaration was successful revitalizes the organization and makes it once again a credible partner of the EU", said the head of state at the end of the Summit of heads of state and government of South-East Europe Cooperation Process (SEECP) member states.

He emphasized that the SEECP has the capacity to support the accession of other countries to the EU and NATO.

The head of state also mentioned that the SEECP Summit also accepted the participation of Kosovo as a guest, fact that enabled the summit to draw up some paragraphs that "further the process of finding common solutions between Pristina and Belgrade".

He also showed that the summit's discussions featured elements that consolidate, but also clarify the way in which the EU accession process of a state can be furthered.

Basescu stated that the advantages citizens first notice regarding EU accession are the freedom of movement and use of European funds, noting that these cannot be consistently put to use if the state in question is not under rule of law, does not feature a competitive economy and an efficient acquisitions system, matters included in the SEECP declaration.
