President Nikolic confers with Gendarmerie commander
BELGRADE - Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic conferred on Wednesday with Gendarmerie Commander Milenko Bozovic on the occasion of the Gendarmerie Day and congratulated the forces on efficient organization and aid they offered during floods.
“The Gendarmerie as an elite police unit should enjoy adequate working conditions, and the new law on police should envisage very strict conditions for joining the unit, while a breach of discipline, regulations or similar should be a reason enough for dismissal,” Nikolic said.
Bozovic expressed hope that the new law on police and other by-laws will solve many problems of this unit, the president's press service released in a statement.
“The support of the state is crucial for solving these issues,” the Gendarmerie commander said, adding that owing to this support, the problems are being solved adequately.
Bozovic said that this year the Gendarmerie Day will be an ordinary working day without any ceremonies.
He thanked the president on the reception and support, adding that during the last year the state of affairs in the Gendarmerie was being brought to order, while the organizational arrangement of the unit and providing adequate accommodation are still under way.
