Belgrade is the new Berlin
BERLIN - CEO of the German National Tourist Board Petra Hedorfer noted on Monday that German tourists see Belgrade as “the new Berlin”, particularly because of its vibrant nightlife.
The number of both Serbian and German tourists is on the rise, Hedorfer told Tanjug on the margins of a panel discussion on Serbia's new beginning towards Brussels and its European pathway.
The event, organised by the Serbia-Germany Forum and the German Foreign Policy Council, was opened in Berlin by Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic and German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier.
More and more Germans travel to the capital of Serbia, and say that Belgrade today is the new Berlin, said Hedorfer, noting that Belgrade's nightlife and culture is particularly appealing to young visitors.
She also pointed out that Serbian tourists are showing more interest in Germany, which is home to a considerable number of Serbian nationals.
Both Serbia and Germany could double the number of tourists, she emphasized.
Hedorfer noted, however, that potential tourists should be given more information, and urged tour operators to expand their offer in both countries.
