Greens: Serbia needs ministry for environment

BELGRADE - Greens of Serbia sent an initiative to Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic Saturday to set up a ministry for the environment and natural resources.

The tasks related to environmental protection and natural resources are too complex and too important to be dealt with as part of another area, the agriculture, which is as complex and as important in itself, Greens of Serbia said.

The Greens said that all environmental issues facing Serbia today were primarily a result of irresponsible environmental system and administration, which had never been fully put in place.

A ministry of the environment and natural resources should empower the government in its plans to implement strategies, programs and legislation in the field of environmental protection in the near future, the Greens said.

The Greens expressed readiness to have the prime minister acquainted with their strategy for protecting the environment and analyzing green economy potential.
