Serbian long jumper Ivana Spanovic tops world rankings
BELGRADE - Serbia's Ivana Spanovic tops the list of best female long jumpers in the world, according to All-Athletics.com, a comprehensive athletics database portal issuing rankings since 1999.
Serbia's long jump record-holder and bronze medalist from the 2013 World Championships in Moscow, Spanovic earned the top spot in the rankings based on the results she achieved in five main events in the past year, the Athletics Federation of Serbia said in a release on Friday.
Spanovic is the first Serbian to claim the top position in the All-Athletics' world rankings. The athletes who came closest to this achievement so far were Biljana Topic in women's triple jump (5th place), Dragutin Topic in men's high jump, Asmir Kolasinac in men's shot put, Emir Bekric in 400 m hurdles and Mihail Dudas in decathlon/heptathlon (all ranked 7th), Dragan Peric in men's shot put (ranked 8th) and Dragana Tomasevic in women's discus throw (9th place).
After winning the first medal for Serbia in the 2013 World Athletics Championships in Moscow, Spanovic won another bronze at the Indoor World Championships in Sopot, Poland, in March this year.
Spanovic is ranked number one long jumper in the world with a score of 1,320, ahead of Brittney Reese (USA) with 1,304 and Eloyse Lesueur (France) with 1,300 points.
