Presidents' Basescu, Poroshenko phone conversation on Ukrainian military operations

Ukraine initiated a phone call from President Petro Poroshenko to his Romanian counterpart Traian Basescu on Saturday, the Romanian presidency informed in a release.

Poroshenko thanked Basescu for the constant support of Romania to Ukraine during the current difficult times for the country and its people, and informed him about the antiterrorist operation of Ukrainian troops in the Donetsk and Lugansk regions and about the transfer of heavy weapons and fighters from Russia, the document mentions.

Basescu reassured Poroshenko about Romania's full understanding and support to legitimate actions of authorities in defense of Ukraine's territorial integrity, and congratulated him on the successes of the Ukrainian army in fighting terrorist in the eastern regions; the Romanian president also firmly condemned the unjustified attack with Grad rockets on Ukrainian troops and civilians.

"Romania stands by Ukraine in the effort of stabilization and of fighting terrorism. Romania understands and politically supports the fight of the Ukrainian army and people for the territorial integrity of the country. Romania is worried about the concentration of Russian military units at the eastern border of Ukraine and by the supply of heavy weapons and fighters to the pro-Russian secessionist forces in the Donetsk and Lugansk regions,' the Presidential Administration stated.

Basescu declared to his Ukrainian counterpart that he sees Ukraine's return to peace and security as a national security element for Romania, too.
