Cosco says strike is over
Employees at the Piraeus container terminal resumed work on Saturday morning after going on strike a day earlier to protest working conditions, representatives of Cosco, the Chinese company that manages the port, told the media.
According to Cosco, the stevedores returned to work after management agreed to meet some of their demands and to discuss the rest.
The workers, who are employed by a separate company, Diakinisis Port, walked off the job on Friday morning in protest at unpaid wages, site safety, not receiving bonuses for dangerous work and having to work 16-hour shifts.
Workers vowed to form a union and seek to sign a collective contract with their employer.
