Ponta: Russia, morally and politically responsible for terrorist attack on civil aircraft crashed in Ukraine
Prime Minister Victor Ponta said on Tuesday in Sibiu that Romania backed the extension of support to Ukraine, as well as the imposition of sanctions on the Russian Federation, of which he said that it is morally and politically responsible for the terrorist attack on a civil aircraft on Ukraine's territory.
'I have clearly seen the message of the US President, of the western leaders, and I believe that Romania must and does [share] the same ideas myself, as Romania's Prime Minister, agree with, specifically that the attack on a civil aircraft is a terrorist attack, which cannot be accepted and cannot pass without consequences, that it's obvious those terrorist separatists have been and are backed by the Russian Federation and there is at least a moral and political responsibility of the Russian Federation for what is going on there and that Romania, together with the United States and the European Union, must support Ukraine, and implicitly the Republic of Moldova and Georgia, to maintain not only their independence and sovereignty, but to combat these phenomena and that any measure we shall take on an international level in this respect will enjoy Romania's support,' Victor Ponta said.
He stated that Romania would agree with the European leaders' and US partners' decision, referring to the sanctions against the Russian Federation.
'Our Foreign Minister, Mr. Corlatean, is at the meeting with his counterparts and everything that is decided on a European level and in coordination with our US partners, sanctions against the Russian Federation, support for Ukraine, must be done with all determination,' the Romanian chief of Government said.
