Upper Austria, Serbia to strengthen cooperation in tourism
BELGRADE - The province of Upper Austria is very interested in implementation of joint activities with the Serbian government in terms of the realisation of the EU Strategy for the Danube Region, Upper Austria Minister of Labour, Economy, Tourism, Sports and European Affairs Michael Strugl stated on Wednesday.
In the talks with Serbian Minister of Trade, Telecommunications and Tourism Rasim Ljajic in Belgrade, Strugl said that the province of Upper Austria is primarily interested in cooperation on the projects aimed at improvement of the tourist offer along the course of the Danube River in Serbia.
Ljajic expressed gratitude to Strugl for Austria's assistance in the realisation of EU project of reconstruction of the Golubac Fortress on the Danube River to the total value of EUR 6.6 million.
He added that the beginning of the works on the fortress reconstruction in early autumn would serve as an encouragement for further investments by European partners in Serbia's tourist infrastructure.
The minister called on Austrian hotel industry businessmen to join the privatisation process for hotels and spas in Serbia, which would additionally improve the two countries' economic cooperation and create the conditions for an increased number of visits of Austrian tourists, the release states.
