Javelin thrower Tatjana Jelaca wins European silver

ZURICH - Serbian javelin thrower Tatjana Jelaca, who holds the national record, won the silver medal at the European Athletics Championships in Zurich late Thursday.

With a 64.21 m throw in the fifth attempt, Jelaca improved her personal best, 62.68 m, by 1.53 m.

It was the second medal for Serbia at this year's European Championships after long jumper Ivana Spanovic won the silver medal on Wednesday with a 6.81 m leap.

All six of Jelaca's attempts were over 60 m (60.98 m, 60.51 m, 62.31 m, 60.25 m, 64.21 m and 60.30 m).

Barbora Spotakova won the gold medal (64.41 m), while the bronze went to Germany's Linda Stahl (63.91 m).
