Romania's Mergea advances to Winston Salem men's doubles quarterfinals

Romanian male tennis player Florin Mergea has advanced to the quarterfinals of the men's doubles event of the 598,260 US-dollar ATP Winston Salem Open tournament, in the US, teamed up with Portugal's Joao Sousa.

On Tuesday, in the first round of the tournament, Mergea amd Sousa defeated the Oliver Marach (Austria)/Santiago Gonzalez (Mexico) double, 6-1, 4-6 11-9. Next, they will meet American double Nicholas Monroe/Donald Young.

For making it through to the quarterfinals, Florin Mergea and Joao Sousa took home 5,370 US dollars and 45 ATP points. AGERPRES
