Aftershocks rattle Halkidiki after strong 5-Richter quake
A strong undersea quake, measuring 5 on the Richter scale, sgtruck off the coast of Cassandra in Halkidiki, northern Greece, shortly before 7.30 a.m. on Friday but there were no reports of any serious damage or injuries.
According to the Athens Geodynamic Institute, the epicenter of the quake was 29 kilometers deep. The initial quake was preceded by a 4.1-level tremor and followed by at least four aftershocks, measuring between 2.4 and 3.2 Richter, seismologists said.
Talking to Skai, Efthimios Lekkas, professor of geology at the University of Athens, did not rule out further aftershocks but said such seismic activity is usual in northern Greece.
