Vucic: Serbia will not impose sanctions against Russia

BELGRADE - Serbia did not and will not impose any kind of sanctions against the Russian Federation, Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic said in an interview with Russian news channel Russia 24.

Even in such difficult times, Serbia has proven to its Russian partners that it is their best friend in Europe, Vucic said Sunday, adding that the position of Serbia on this matter is very clear.

Serbia and Russia have important joint projects ahead, and we will continue to develop them together, Vucic said in the interview, partly conducted in Russian.

Serbia signed the agreement on South Stream construction and that is final. Our position on this is absolutely clear. We are discussing this matter both with our European and our Russian partners, said Vucic.

The construction of South Stream gas pipeline is a vital energy project for Serbia, he underlined, noting that Serbia does not change its opinion depending on the current political situation in the world.

Our duty is to work for the benefit of our country, our people, and Serbia's energy security, said Vucic.

Commenting on the situation in Ukraine, Vucic said that there is only one way out of the crisis, stressing that peace has no alternative.

Those who think differently are very much mistaken. In order to achieve lasting peace, the resolution to all issues must be sought as quickly as possible. No more lives should be lost and no blood spilt among our Slavic brothers, the Serbian prime minister said.
