Dacic: Gradual reduction of unemployment

BELGRADE - Serbia's Deputy Prime Minister Ivica Dacic said on Wednesday the number of unemployed in July dropped by 4,029, or 0.52 percent, compared to the month before, making it the 5th month in a row that the number of unemployed registered with the National Employment Agency (NSZ) was going down.

"We received information a few days ago thatt 769,340 people were registered with the NSZ in July," he told the parliament, where he presented arguments for the proposal to make Presidnet of the Serbian Chamber of Commerce Zeljko Sertic the minister of economy.

The number of unemployed is based on NSZ data, which is authorised to collect that information, and not on some labour surveys.

"Compared to February this year, when the number of unemployed reached the highest level in years, 793,625, this is a reduction of 24,285 total, or 3.06 percent less people registered with the NSZ than in February," Dacic pointed out.
