Vucic: Serbia needs peace and stability

MAJDANPEK - Serbian Progressive Party (SNS)leader Aleksandar Vucic has said that Serbia needs to have peace and stability, to be on the road to the EU and to have the best possible co-operation with the Russian Federation.

Speaking at an election rally in Majdanpek on Wednesday, ahead of the local elections due to be held in the eastern Serbia municipality on September 7, Vucic said that the SNS held only one thing sacred, and it was Serbia, and they fought for it, and their job was to be a servant, a servant of their people - the citizens of Serbia.

Stressing that it was best for the country to enjoy peace and stability, to be on the road to the EU and to have the best possible co-operation with the Russian Federation, Vucic said that sometimes he had to say that very thing to both German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Russian President Vladimir Putin, and that everyone always had to take exception to something, but the most important thing was that the people in Serbia knew and felt that everything that they had been doing was in their best interests.

"We want this city to be built from copper, gold and silver," said Vucic, adding that the SNS would not be like their predecessors, looking only to take a percentage, fill their suitcases and go home.

Vucic said that the most important issue was employment, pointing out that each of the previous five months had seen a reduction in unemployment, something that had not happened in the previous 20 years.

The gathering was also addressed by Movement of Socialists leader Aleksandar Vulin, who said: "We will not squander the future of our children."
