BELGRADE -- Foreign Minister and First Deputy Prime Minister Ivica Dačić has said that Serbia supports "the global alliance of the fight against terrorism."
Dačić told the Belgrade-based daily Blic that this global joining of forces was also important for our region. "First of all, because there are many jihadists from our region," he said.
The newspaper noted that "this was Dačić's answer to a question posed by Italian Ambassador Giuseppe Manzo," who was on Monday its "guest editor for the world news section."
The daily noted that Serbia should soon adopt legislation prohibiting its citizens from joining wars abroad.
The article added that "some 40 radical Islamists went to war in Syria from the Raška (Sandžak) region, mainly to join the Islamic State terrorist organization."
It then quoted "a security structures source" as saying that "the biggest danger are those returning from the war, who have blood on their hands, and for that reason they will be under close supervision."
Two days ago a conference was held in Paris to devise a strategy against the Islamic State, bringing together representatives from 30 countries who agreed to offer "adequate military assistance to Iraq in its fight against jihadists," said media reports.
