Nikolic: Developed countries responsible for global warming
NEW YORK - Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic has said that developed countries are responsible for ozone layer depletion and global warming, but they now want to establish rules that poor countries will not be able to adhere to.
Serbia is certainly not the country that depleted the ozone layer and raised the temperature on Earth, but it was nevertheless hit by severe floods from which it cannot recover on its own, Nikolic said on the sidelines of the UN climate change summit in New York on Tuesday evening.
He noted that some countries built up cities and economies, disregarding the possible adverse consequences, while now they want to establish rules that will be a barrier for underdeveloped countries.
If you introduce such standards, poor and underdeveloped countries will not be able to meet them, the Serbian president warned.
This is a global problem, and it has to be tackled globally, the Serbian president underscored.
The summit in New York, held on the sidelines of 69th session of the UN General Assembly, is bringing together leaders of 120 countries.
