Foreing investors call on EC to back Serbia on its EU path
BELGRADE - The delegation of the Foreign Investors Council (FIC) which is staying in Brussels called on the European Commission (EC) to provide support to Belgrade on its EU path through accession talks and assistance instruments.
The FIC delegation headed by FIC President Frederic Coin conferred in Brussels with EC representatives, FIC released on Friday.
During the meeting with EC Director General for Enlargement Christian Danielson, Coin voiced strong willingness for cooperation with EC and the Serbian government in order to accelerate the economic integration of Serbia in the EU.
Over 70 percent of FIC members come from the EU and we can offer a unique support to the European integration process because we have essential knowledge of both the EU and Serbian market, Coin said and added that the initiated accession talks and the current level of economic and trade cooperation between Serbia and the EU (with Serbia's export to the EU at over 65 percent) constitute a good foundation for future integration.
The FIC president also said that FIC has established an open and close cooperation with the Serbian government, and added that dialogue on highest export level has been established in a number of areas.
The government has launched some long-awaited reforms by modernisation of laws in the areas of labour law and bankruptcy, Coin said.
The government's determination to implement serious reforms is obvious and we hope that we will soon witness tangible steps in the realisation of key goals of economic restructuring, better law implementation, public sector reform and ensuring rule of law, which should all lead to sustainable development of the Serbian economy, Coin said.
