Verification of existence of mass grave near Djakovica
BELGRADE - The Office of the Serbian Prosecutor for War Crimes said on Monday that they were working with the EULEX Prosecutor's Office to verify information about a mass grave in Piskota, near Djakovica in Kosovo, that contains Serb victims.
The Serbian office and the War Crimes Investigation Unit of EULEX acquired information about the location of a possible mass grave of Serb civilians killed in the 1998-1999 conflict in Kosovo.
The Office of the Serbian Prosecutor for War Crimes stated that they have information that the bodies buried at the location could be of the victims killed by the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA, a former ethnic Albanian paramilitary organisation) at their prison camp called Likovac.
The EULEX Prosecutor's Office ordered an axhumation, autopsy and identification of any remains found at the location, the Serbian office said.
The EULEX office raised an indictment in November 2013 against 7 members of the KLA's so called Drenica group for torture and murder of one Serb police officer in Likovac, which was in the Drenica area.
The accused include Kosovo's Ambassador to Albania and former KLA commander for the Drenica region Sulejman Selimi and head of the municipality of Srbica Sami Ljustaku, both high-ranking officials of the party of Kosovo's outgoing Prime Minister Hasim Taci, as well as his close associates.
