Russian pianist Sinchuk, RTS orchestra to close BEMUS
BELGRADE - Young Russian pianist Alexander Sinchuk will perform with the RTS Symphonic Orchestra and conductor Bojan Sudjic at the Kolarac Endowment at the closing of the 46th Belgrade Music Festival (BEMUS) late Saturday.
The performance will feature Sergei Rachmaninoff's symphonic poem The Isle of the Dead, Piano Concerto No. 2 and Piano Concerto No. 3.
The only Serbian ensemble that has made successive appearances at BEMUS over more than a decade - at the festival's most significant concerts and opening and closing ceremonies - will perform Rachmaninoff's The Isle of the Dead, a very demanding composition inspired by Swiss symbolist Arnold Boecklin's painting of the same title.
The Belgrade Music Festival, one the biggest events in the city, established back in 1969, opened this year with a performance by the Russian choir Glinka with Vladislav Chernushenko as the conductor.
The rich programme of the 46th BEMUS rested on three focal points, the 100th anniversary of the Great War, the 100th anniversary of the death of Stevan Mokranjac and the 30th anniversary of the deaths of Vasilije Mokranjac and Marko Tajcevic.
This year's festival was organised by the newly-founded Belgrade Festivals Centre (CEBEF), including BEMUS executive producer JUGOKONCERT.
