Vucic and Valls pay tribute to French soldiers

BELGRADE - Prime ministers of Serbia and France, Aleksandar Vucic and Manuel Valls, laid wreaths on Friday at the Monument of Gratitude to France and underlined that the strong and lasting friendship between the two countries will continue to grow in decades to come.

Serbia overcame the greatest challenges in World War I, said Vucic, addressing the citizens gathered at Belgrade's Kalemegdan Park, and added that those who are trying to undermine the country's peace and stability today will never succeed.

Regardless of the challenges placed before us by those who do not wish us well, I promise that we will win, and that Serbia will be a normal, modern and successful country, stressed Vucic.

"To all those who are trying to undermine peace and stability in the country, who advocate for the secession of parts of our territory, who use politics rather than justice with an intent to destabilize Serbia, I would like to send a clear message - Serbia is free, unified and indivisible, no one will undermine the stability of Serbia no matter how hard they try," Vucic said.

The two prime ministers pointed out that Serbia and France share close and long-standing ties.

The friendship was further strengthened during the Great War, when France earned a special place in the hearts of Serbian people, Vucic said.

French Prime Minister Valls underlined that the two countries fought on the same side in World War I, and that now they are working together on the project of peace in Europe.

It is our way of saying that we love Serbia just as Serbia loved us, said Valls, paraphrasing the inscription on the Monument of Gratitude to France - "Let us love France like it loved us ".
