Goran Paskaljevic wins award at Varna festival

BELGRADE - Celebrated Serbian film director and screenwriter Goran Paskaljevic is the winner of the award for humanity in cinematography at the 15th international film festival in Varna, Bulgaria.

Under the auspices of the International Red Cross and Bulgarian Vice President Margarita Popova, the festival was opened with a screening of Paskaljevic's latest film When Day Breaks, the author has told Tanjug.

The award was handed out by Varna Mayor Ivan Portnih at the opening ceremony.

Bulgarian Red Cross President Hristo Gligorov decorated the Serbian director with the golden Red Cross pin, the highest honour awarded by the organisation to international figures for distinguished service in charity work.

The festival, which opened on November 3, features 120 films from 15 countries, and is attended by many guests from abroad and figures from Bulgaria's political life.
