Chief prosecutor of the National Anti-Corruption Directorate (DNA) Laura Codruta Kovesi has submitted to the attorney general a request for a criminal investigation of former Interior Minister Cristian David in relation to bribe taking and money laundering. The request should be forwarded to President Traian Basescu.

'Chief Prosecutor of the National Anti-Corruption Directorate (DNA) Laura Codruta Kovesi has submitted to the attorney general of the Supreme Court a report drawn up by corruption prosecutors for the notification of Romania's President in relation to a request for a criminal investigation of Cristian David, the minister of interior and administrative reforms April 5, 2007 — December 22, 2008, in relation to bribe taking an money laundering,' reads a press release issued on Monday by DNA.

The release mentions that the offences about which DNA was notified in 2014 regard David Cristian as interior minister having requested in 2007 and received on February 1, 2008, 500,000 euros from an informer in order for the minister to exercise his advice and coordination powers so as to make sure the county board in charge with issuing title deeds will issue a title deed over a 15-ha plot of land located inside the borders of the city of Buzau.

'In order to conceal the provenance of the bribe money and avoid criminal prosecution, various purchasing contracts would have been concluded regarding fictitious property between the persons involved in the corruption offences,' DNA argues.

Enclosed in the request is the report of the DNA prosecutors involved in the investigation as well as copies of the criminal investigation file. AGERPRES
