Gojkovic: Serbia's goal to complete reforms by end of 2018

BELGRADE - Serbian Parliament Speaker Maja Gojkovic met UK Minister for Europe David Lidington and Speaker of the House of Lords Baroness Frances D'Souza during her visit to London, with whom she discussed Serbia's EU integration and reforms.

During her meeting with the minister for Europe on Tuesday, Gojkovic presented the measures that the government and parliament are taking, and underscored that Serbia is committed to reforms and EU integration.

Gojkovic and Lidington agreed that Serbia has achieved considerable progress along the EU path.

Gojkovic noted that it is Serbia's objective to complete all the reforms that are a prerequisite for joining the EU by the end of 2018, after which it will be up to the EU to decide about the membership.

She informed Baroness D'Souza about intensive legislative activities that the national parliament is carrying out as part of the ongoing reform process aimed at harmonizing Serbian laws with the EU's acquis.

"We believe that the laws we are passing will help attract foreign investments and secure economic growth," Gojkovic said, underlining that she is advocating for even closer parliamentary cooperation with the UK.

After London, Serbia's parliamentary delegation, including deputy speakers Veroljub Arsic and Vladimir Marinkovic, will go to Edinburgh, where they will tour the Scottish parliament.
