Joint exercise Srem 2014 starts on Friday

BELGRADE - The Serbian and Russian armed forces will conduct a joint exercise entitled Srem 2014 at the Nikinci training grounds, 70 km west of Belgrade, on Friday.

The 106th Tulska division will represent the Russian forces. The preparations for the exercise started in Serbia recently.

The Russian Defence Ministry said on November 10 that the arrival of two BMD-2 military vehicles at the Grabovci airfield had marked the start of the preparations for Russian-Serbian joint antiterrorist exercise Srem 2014.

Russian paratroopers and Serbian special forces conducted preparations and equipment checks at the Batajnica airbase, on the outskirts of Belgrade, the statement says.

According to Russian Armed Forces Deputy Commander for Peace Operations and Radip Response Major General Alexandar Vyaznikov, the troops from both sides displayed a high level of cooperation and coordination during training.
