Ivanovic contender for WTA Player of Year

LONDON - Serbian tennis player Ana Ivanovic has been shortlisted for the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) Player of the Year.

Ivanovic finished the season as No. 5, after claiming four titles (Auckland, Monterey, Birmingham, Tokyo) and with the score of 58-17 achieved the highest number of victories during the WTA tour.

The shortlist also includes Serena Williams (USA), Petra Kvitova (Czech Republic), Maria Sharapova (Russia), Simona Halep (Romania), and Chinese tennis player Li Na, who has recently retired.

Williams won the award five times (in 2002, 2008, 2009, 2012 and 2013), while Sharapova and Kvitova were once the best at the end of the year.

The voting will be open seven days, and the winner of the award will be declared on Friday, November 21.
