Ömer Uluç’s masterpiece auctioned
âÃlüdeniz,â the last masterpiece by leading Turkish painter Ãmer Uluç, who died in 2010, was sold for 950,000 Turkish Liras at the 283rd auction of the Antik A.Å. Auction House held at Antil Palace.
The auction, which received great attention from collectors, offered works by leading contemporary Turkish artists.
Exceeding the opening price
The opening price for Uluçâs âÃlüdenizâ was 700,000 liras. Depicting the artistâs own life, the piece is one of the biggest masterpieces in Turkish art at a size of 250 x 880 centimeters.
Another piece by a leading Turkish sculptor, Ä°lhan Koman, found a new owner for 415,000 liras. The work, from the artistâs âStockholmâ series, dates back to 1960 and had been kept in the Ä°lhan Koman Foundation collection. Canan Tolonâs abstract works were sold for 475,000 and 225,000 liras in the auction, while Erol AkyavaÅâs âFiguresâ found a buyer for 345,000 liras, âVAVâ for 290,000 liras and âLost Dervishâ for 260,000 liras.
Other works sold at the auction were Burhan DoÄançayâs âWalls,â and âRed Sox.â The former was sold for 305,000 liras and the latter for 176,000 liras.
