Domingo's concert proves Belgrade region's cultural capital

BELGRADE - Belgrade Mayor Sinisa Mali has met with Spanish tenor Placido Domingo, who will hold a concert at Kombank Arena on December 8, and said that the arrival of one of the best-known opera singers of today proves that Belgrade is the cultural capital of the region.

Domingo, whose last performance in Serbia took place in 1987, will hold a solo concert accompanied by the Radio Television of Serbia (RTS) symphony orchestra and choir.
"The first question I asked Placido Domingo was "why did he take so long to come to Belgrade again". I hope that we will wait much less for the next performance," Mali said on Saturday.

Stressing that by coming to Serbia, the Spanish tenor has done a great thing for the country, the mayor called on the citizens to come to the concert in Kombank Arena and enjoy the spectacle of one of the biggest artists of today.
Placido Domingo said that he is happy to return to Belgrade after so many years.

This is a city of a rich culture and great singers, Domingo said, adding that past performances with Serbian opera singer Radmila Bakocevic in the world's major opera houses are among the greatest pleasures he had in his career.

Domingo said he is looking forward to the concert on Monday, and that he believes that he will visit Serbia again soon.

I hope that Serbia will soon be a part of our European community, which is expanding, and even in difficult times there is no doubt that it is nice that we are all together, Domingo said.

Domingo said that Belgrade today is different from the one in the late eighties and the time of the former Yugoslavia.
