Chinese partners interested in further investments
BELGRADE - Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic and officials of the China Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMEC), which is in charge of the overhaul of Kostolac thermal power plant, said Thursday that the works in the first phase are going as planned, and voiced expectation that the project will be successfully completed and the production resumed in a very short time.
The CEO of CMEC and head of the Chinese delegation Zhang Chun thanked Nikolic for his personal support and stressed that the corporation, along with its partners, is interested in continued investment in Serbia.
The Chinese partners voiced satisfaction over the fact that the agreement on the second phase of Kostolac B overhaul was reached on Wednesday, the president's press office said in a release.
The Chinese corporation plans to build a thermal power plant in Novi Sad, and a CMEC expert group has established contact with Priboj-based motor vehicle manufacturer FAP to jointly find a way to restart production, said Zhang Chun.
President Nikolic said that the Chinese companies operating in Serbia have proven their speed and efficiency in the delivery of infrastructure projects, adding that they could also find common interest with the Serbian companies and invest in production as well.
Nikolic pointed to his last year's meeting with President of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping as highly beneficial, noting that after this meeting the Chinese president invited Chinese companies to invest in Serbia, the release states.
