Indonesian Rescue Teams Retrieve Bodies from Java Sea
Indonesian search and rescue teams began recovering bodies of passengers from the disappeared AirAisa flight, reports The Guardian.
The operation started after officials confirmed the floating debris in the Java Sea was that of the missing flight QZ8501.
A major search and rescue effort involving at least 30 ships and 15 aircraft from nine countries has been looking for the plane since it vanished early on Sunday morning while carrying 162 passengers from Surabaya, Indonesia, to Singapore.
Earlier on Tuesday Reuters and AFP reported the teams discovered debris resembling a plane door, aн emergency slide and a square box-like object, floating on the sea surface some 10 km from the place where the ground control lost contact with the plane on Sunday.
"We spotted about 10 big objects and many more small white-coloured objects which we could not photograph," an Indonesian air force official, Air Vice-Marshall Agus Dwi Putranto, told a press conference.
