MAE: Romania takes over as chair of the OSCE's Security Committee

Romania has taken over the annual chairmanship of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe's [OSCE] Security Committee, to remain in charge from January 1 until December 31, 2015, following to be particularly committed to fighting terrorism, transnational organised crime, the illegal migration phenomenon in the OSCE range of influence, improving cyber security, combating human trafficking and illegal drugs trafficking, managing security at the OSCE member states borders, in the context of the existing transnational menaces, reforming the security sector and strengthening cooperation between the law enforcement authorities, reads a MAE release to AGERPRES.

Romania becoming chair of the Security Committee reflects the recognition of the active profile of the country within the OSCE, in supporting the role, values and fundamental principles of the organisation aiming at ensuring peace, security and cooperation in Europe, through the full capitalisation on its unique concept of comprehensive security approach.

The one commissioned to hold office as a chair will be Romania's Permanent representative to the International Organisations in Vienna, Ambassador Cristian Istrate, to be helped by a team of diplomats from the Permanent Mission of Romania in Vienna, capitalisating on the existing expertise at the level of Romanian institutions with responsibilities in the OSCE's Security Committees range of action.
