'Je suis Charlie' solidarity gathering organized in Athens

A gathering has been organized on Thursday afternoon at the French Institute in Athens to express solidarity with the people of France and condemn a deadly attack on the offices of the Charlie Hebdo satirical magazine in Paris on Wednesday.

Thousands of people around the world have held gatherings and candle-light vigils under the slogan 'Je suis Charlie' (I am Charlie) after three gunmen shot dead 12 people and injured 10 at the central Paris offices of the magazine in what is being treated as an attack by Islamic fundamentalists.

The Athens gathering will begin at 5 p.m. at the French Institute, located at 31 Sina Street in Kolonaki.
