Gov't adopts amendments to law on public notaries

BELGRADE - The Serbian government Saturday adopted amendments to the Law on Notary Public and an accompanying set of laws that lawyers had demanded changes be made to them.

The government adopted the proposals for amendments to the following set of laws - the Law on Transfer of Immovable Property, the Law on Extra-Judicial Proceedings, the Family Law and the Law on Inheritance.

Lawyers have been on strike since September 17 as they believe that the Law on Notary Public and the accompanying laws are threatening their interests.

However, they have recently reached an agreement with the Ministry of Economy to end their strike when the amendments to those laws are adopted and enter into force.

The government also adopted a proposal to amend the Law on Organization and Competences of Government Authorities in War Crimes Proceedings.

The government has sent a request to the Serbian parliament to review the draft laws at an extraordinary session (which has been scheduled for Monday), the government's media relations office said in a release.

According to the release, the Serbian government decided to propose to the assembly of the shareholders' society of the Serbian Railways to appoint Miroslav Stojcic as director-general, and Nenad Kecman and Rajko Kovic as executive directors at the company.
